I inherited a bridge theme WP site.
It is using a bridge child theme. I am not sure what changes where made.
I want to update the Bridge theme to the most recent v. 17.2.
Do I just update the parent them and leave the child theme as is?
Should I save the style.css file? any other files?
thanks for all your help.
Yes, update the parent theme only and leave the child theme as it is ( otherwise, you would lose your child theme's customizations ). When you update the parent theme, all parent theme files (files in wp-content/themes/bridge folder) get overwritten. So if you have modified those files, the modifications will be lost when you update the parent theme. If you have added the code in the parent theme's style.css file, backup that file before the update.
We strongly recommend creating a full site backup before the theme update. You probably have a backup tool included in your hosting plan. After creating a backup, activate parent theme and update the parent theme by following these steps:
After the theme update, navigate to Plugins section and update WPBakery to version 5.6:
Apply the following settings too, to set WPBakery as default page editor:

I needed to update the Bridge theme via an SFPT client. It worked!
You are welcome Luke, we are glad that we could help.
I updated the theme by FTP to the theme folder. It worked.
